An Introduction to Working with Couples and other Intimate Relationships
During this workshop we will focus on:
* Defining couples and intimate relationship therapy, what it is and what it is not;
*Exploring through experiential practice key features of working with these client groups: how to start; what to expect; frequently experienced issues and problems; assessment formats and approaches; working with EDI from beginning to end of therapy;
* Highlighting different approaches and ways of thinking and practicing – practice and reflection on practice learning;
* Discussions and creating an integrated map that allows you to draw on your own framework of practice.
After the Introductory Workshop, participants who wish to continue the training will be asked to start with one couple /intimate relationship group when they have a suitable supervisor, unless they feel not ready, we will discuss this on the course.
This work is often more complex than individual therapy and it requires the practitioner to develop an additional strand of self-awareness: an understanding of your own relationship dynamics and patterns.
We will pay attention to use of self, phenomenology and embodied and relational dynamics and this will deepen as the workshops progress into more advanced reflective practice as part of your development.
The programme includes three taught modules, and, if enough interest is shown, a fourth assessment module can be offered leading towards a certificate in Couples and Intimate Relationship Therapy.
Details about the Certificate programme requirements in terms of practice hours and formal assessment will be communicated after the training has started, once Carmen has assessed the learning needs of the group and level of interest.
Workshop 1: An Introduction to Working with Couples and other Intimate Relationships. (The Introduction Workshop will run twice (between 16th and 18th of September in Krakow and online in November) before Workshops 2 & 3 are offered; dates of the other workshops to be confirmed)
Workshop 2: 13th-15th January 2023 (On-line): Developing skills (advanced): working with attachment styles and family / upbringing context dynamics

The emphasis throughout the training is on us learning together about the work through experiential practice, with discussion in the whole group and small group with feedback and theory and practice inputs.
A small amount of reading materials will be sent before each workshop – participants are expected to have read the materials each time. In addition, handouts will be provided from time to time by Carmen for you to use during the workshops.
All participants are expected to agree to a strict confidentiality policy and to be willing to work within an equalities, diversity, and inclusion environment. The training itself will emphasise this as part of the work.
A log of all clinical hours and all supervision hours with brief notes about the couple/the issues and work (anonymized) should be kept by participants.
